The Chesapeake Shores Homeowners Association had its annual meeting on September 2, 2017, at 10:30 at the Beulah Methodist Church. A quorum of the homeowners and association members was present. The following information was discussed.

Officer Reports

President's Report

  • Peyton Carr stepped down as president. He will remain on the board. The board thanks Peyton for his years of service.
  • Sonny Fauver is the new president. Drew Mulhare will be the new vice president.

Treasurer's Report

  • As of August 31, there were 38 paid members.
    • This is the same as last year, with two new paid members and two that left.
  • Most expenses come in during September/October, but it looks like we're tracking on the budget.

Old business

  • Sonny Fauver and Joe Dzikiewicz were reelected to three year terms.
  • Breakwater update:
    • Work complete under financing available.
    • They are still raising funds to liquidate debt with another $78K still on loan.
    • Unsuccessful on a lot of grant applications. Some money from Mathews County and Luck Stone.
    • They will need more work to handle the lack of beach.
    • The decision was to bring breakwaters closer to shore due to lack of money. This led to the beach coming closer to shore. They are searching for ways to make that better, but it's not sure what the answer is: it is not as simple as just adding sand. Either way, they need to liquidate the debt first.
    • The contractor says problem is not enough sand – they put less sand than originally planned.
    • The breakwaters are improving the resiliency of beach after storms.
    • Breakwaters are accumulating sand.
    • Note that rocks are on land owned by state of Virginia. People are climbing on rocks: there have been people falling. Better for people to stay off rocks. Note that there is shellfish on the rocks, so it’s sharp.

New business

  • There was some discussion about when and where to hold the annual meeting. The conclusion was to keep it the Saturday of Labor Day Weekend, but move it to Dave Norris's Annex back at the beach.

Open discussion

  • Bill Powell stepped down from presidency of Bavon Beach’s HOA board. Carl Braun is the new president.
  • Bavon Beach's HOA has 75-80% participation at their annual meeting. They combine it with an afternoon social, which seems to help.
  • We should consider doing the same.
  • Dominion Energy is trimming trees for powerlines.
